Why do some cats find it hard to get along?

I have experienced this before when I had two cats. They found it hard to get along and they are always fighting with each other. When I realised that i cannot actually stop this, I had to give one away to a family member.

I've experienced tension between cats before. Sometimes they need a lot more time to adjust, but in some cases, keeping them apart is the best solution.
