I feel helpless whenever my cats are having hiccups. I know how it makes me feel to have hiccups and seeing it happening to my cats doesn't make me feel any better. It happens to them when they eat too fast and too much. It's why I start making use of puzzle feeder to make them eat slowly.

I remember Smokey getting hiccups a few times, it was rare for her and I noticed it was always when she had eaten fast for some reason, say if something spooked her.

Most of the time she was pretty calm and ate her food slowly though.

My cats usually seem to eat a lot faster whenever they have been starved. Once that happens, there's no way they won't have hiccups at the end of it. It's why I try as much as possible to give them good regularly to prevent this from happening.

I've never seen any of my cats having hiccups. They seem to be fine always after they are done with eating. Hiccups can be very uncomfortable for human beings and I assume it's going to be the same for cats.
