It's a general knowledge that cats hates to bath. They just hate having water touch them. If it's up to home cats, they would never bath in their lives.

With having this in mind, coming from the heath side, it's not advisable to bath your cats too often. It's just like with dogs too.

So, how often to you bath your cats?

When I first got my long hair cat, a Russian Forest Siberian, I used to shower him every weekend, a quick shower, lathered him up and quickly rinsed him thoroughly, I thought I was helping him keeping him clean, smelling fresh and reducing the shedding but I was doing the opposite. According to my vet, cats do not need to be showered, as they do that themselves when they groom themselves. If we shower a cat, then we can possibly keep the cat from cleaning themselves in the future. With that being said, since my vet advised me not to shower my cats, I have probably showered him 4 times in the last 9 years, only when he has had poop stuck around his butt or tail... what can I say, accidents happen with long hair cats! 😒

I normally bath my cats within 5 to 6 weeks depending on how often they groom themselves. The only time I would break the time line of bathing is when they get in the mud outside playing as I can't leave them to do all the job themselves because it's going to take like forever for them to clean up themselves.

My cats hates water and after taking them to their vet, I was told not to bother much with having them bathed because they do most of their cleaning on their own. I was told to bath them maybe once every 4 to 5 months unless they get heavily in dirt.

The vet doctor told you the truth. Cats don't like getting inside water that much and that is the reason they always avoid taking their bath often.
