Have your cat suddenly gone blind?

A friend of mine was telling me yesterday that one of his suddenly went blind. He started noticing his cat constant bumping into things he never used to. It was a very worrying situation for him all through last. He couldn't sleep because of the fear of something happening to his cat. He will be taking the cat to see his vet today.

Could this be as a result of infection or something? I have never been in a situation where my cat went blind and it can be a terrifying situation. If it is an infection, the medical vet doctor should be able to handle it.
