Can you adopt a cat from the shelter?

There are animal shelters where pets are put up for adoption. Cats are among the pets mostly put up for adoption, due to unforeseen circumstances.
Have you ever thought of adopting a cat, to give it a home?

Me and my family always choose to adopt cats rather than buy them. There are so many cats that end up left behind or left out of the street due to people not wanting them and it leaves a lot of shelters crowded.

We have not yet decided to get another cat since we lost Smokey a few years ago but when we feel ready, we will be adopting from our local adoption charity.

I will always go for adoption than buying a pet. I haven't seen any adoption home over here that I can buy because it's on my mind to have a cat now.
